How do I determine the pitch of my roof?

To save you the trouble, we ship our Cupolas with the base pitch already cut out of the base to conform to the pitch of your roof. So we need to know your roof pitch. Here's how to determine it:

The measurements are taken from on top of the roof. Simply mark a level at 12", hold it perfectly level and measure from the roof surface to your 12" mark, this will give you the rise. Be careful with this method as a roof with many layers of shingles, or any type of roofing that is irregular can give you less than precise results.

See Diagram below for more information:

So, for example, if you measured 7", the pitch of your roof is 7/12, pronounced "Seven over twelve.”

Maintenance Free Cupolas!

You may have noticed how wood Cupolas tend to disintegrate over time and may need to either be replaced or painted every few years. Not ours!  We manufacture beautiful Cupolas that don't require painting and will last for many years to come. We start with a sturdy wood base then clad it completely in aluminum, copper, steel, galvanized or other metals. There are over 450 aluminum colors to choose from and the designs are endless. If you want to use your Cupola for ventilation, you will want to go with one of our Louvered models that come pre-screened to keep pests and debris out while reducing both heating and cooling costs year round by allowing your roof to breath, which also extends the life of your roof.

Our innovative Windowed models add a touch of class by day and set off a beautiful glow at night when combined with our accent light kits. These are an attractive ornamental conversation piece and are not meant for venting.

Either model is available in many shapes, sizes and a wide range of colors which are sure to be the finishing touch! Check out our stock models online or call us for more technical information and options.

HOW TO INSTALL A CUPOLA

Installing a Cupola onto NEW CONSTRUCTION or a RE-ROOF:

We recommend using a Curb when installing your Cupola onto a new roof. This allows you to run your flashing up the sides of the Curb, complete your shingles or other roofing materials, then drop your Cupola base section right over the Curb and just like that, all the potential water penetration problems are taken care of. But the best part about it, is the fact that everything is hidden underneath the Cupola base, so it doesn't effect the appearance.

Installing a Cupola onto an EXISTING roof:
When installing your Cupola onto your existing roof, we will build a mounting cleat right inside the base section of the Cupola and provide the necessary hardware for you to install it. You would simply secure the base section to the roof line, add a bead of caulk around the exterior of the base where it meets the roof, then add your windowed or louvered sections and top it off with the roof. It's that easy.

Louvers Any Size, Shape, or Color!

Louvers (gable end vents) are a must for attic ventilation.  They prevent moisture build up in the winter and create air flow in the summer to reduce the heat build up, both of which are necessary to keep your home from having mildew, rotting and other issues you won't want to deal with. The life of your roof will also be extended if you have good airflow in the attic. Most people will do the simple thing and order a stock size in White, but any Size, Shape or Color is available from New Concept Louvers Inc. They are both aesthetically appealing, functional and maintenance free. For more information and pricing you can contact New Concept Louvers Inc. at 800 635-6448.

RAIN CHAINS

How about some fun outdoor items for the yard? Rain chains provide a great source of enjoyment even when your on the inside looking out!

Rain chains replace the down spout and allow the flow of water to go into a flower bed, water basin (pictured below) or whiskey barrel on the ground. During this time of the year they will often freeze and create wonderful icicles that are fun to watch melt as they warm up during the day.

For pricing, click on images.

(Basin sold separately)

Cupolas are functional!

It's true! Cupolas are not only beautiful, but an excellent way to help ventilate your attic. Cupolas sit on the peak of the roof, so as the heat rises it can escape through all sides of the Cupola! This means the heat will be able to flow out in summer months and the moisture and condensation won't build up in winter. Both heat and moisture are culprits in rotting issues to your roof, trusses and insulation. So by placing a Cupola on the top of the roof and adding a couple gable end Louvers, you can create some great air flow to prevent this type of damage, as well as prolong the life of your roof. Functional and appealing, Cupolas are popular and serve a very useful purpose!
